A Meal and a Chat Events This Weekend Aim to Strengthen Cuyahoga County

The Cleveland Foundation is hoping to bring together a few thousand Cuyahoga County residents to discuss their community over a meal this weekend.

They’re calling the event Common Ground. On Sunday, the foundation and more than three dozen organizations are hosting conversations across the county. The conversations cover a variety of topics, all loosely focused on how to create “a more equitable and resilient” community.

The largest conversation will take place in Cleveland’s Public Square. The foundation expects hundreds to attend. Stephanie Hicks Thompson is one of the organizers of Common Ground. She says they’ll try to seat attendees with people who’ve never met. They’ll share a meal and discuss how they might strengthen Cuyahoga County.

"If you had $10,000, and you had one day to make a difference, what would you do? And asking people to think about that. Presenting people with the opportunity to connect is really the goal here," says Hicks Thompson.

Some of the conversations include a discussion about early child literacy in Maple Heights or reducing plastic waste at the Cleveland aquarium.
