Greater Cleveland Partnership Tech Week Addresses Challenges Facing Tech Community

Cleveland is well-known as a health hub, but could it one day be known for its tech industry as well? 

We've discussed on the Sound of Ideas recently how our civic rival, Pittsburgh, has managed to create both a startup culture, as well as attract big name companies to set up regional hubs in the city. Might Cleveland do the same? 

And how is the pandemic shaking up the tech world, when workers can live anywhere and work anywhere?

This hour, we're going to dive deep into Cleveland's tech world, talking about two events focused in this space. The first is Greater Cleveland Partnership's annual Tech Week, which is a week-long in-person and virtual event, starting Sep. 27 that aims to support and engage the local tech community through education, networking, pitch contests and programming for members of the IT industry, including entrepreneurs, students, educators and executives. 

We'll start by hearing from some of the organizers, and some of the guest speakers. They'll talk about the series of events, and about some of the most pressing issues in the technology sphere today, including attracting diverse talent, being a woman in tech, and how to become a successful startup. 

The second tech event is focused on using technology to solve important problems, like challenges facing Lake Erie. Around 9:30, we'll talk about Cleveland Water Alliance's Erie Hack. 

Later in the hour, we'll hear the latest in our Applause Performances series, and meet a honky tonk band.
