The monkeypox virus has been labeled a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.  In the month since the WHO made its announcement about the virus, more than 18-thousand cases have been recorded nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Ohio to date has just under 150 cases statewide, with about half of those in Cuyahoga County.

The outbreak of the virus arrives as we continue to deal with the coronavirus and the fatigue and burnout created by dealing with that pandemic. The monkeypox virus has disproportionately impacted the LGBTQ community and led some to question whether the response has been quick enough.

We have with us today the public health leaders of for both Cleveland and Cuyahoga County.

Later in the hour, with the Labor Day holiday approaching, how is the labor force of the Northeast Ohio aligned with available jobs? That is a question that the economic development agency, Team NEO, looks at on a regular basis.

The organization recently released the latest versions of two reports, Misaligned Opportunities and Lost Opportunities. This time, Team NEO, delved into the STEM field looking at the gaps between jobs and the workers available.  The reports specifically focused on the racial and gender disparities and gaps that exist in the current workforce.
