Your Answers: What makes a good journalist?

NewsCat is hiring an intern next season, and we want your input! For this week’s question, we want to know: " What do you think makes a good journalist?"

---

A good journalist needs to have all of the traits Newsdepth mentioned last season but they also need to go beyond. A good journalist also needs creativity and a positive mindset! You need to be creative with the words that you use and be able create sentences that aren't choppy. A good journalist needs to have a positive mindset because they are constantly correcting themselves and that is a lot of work! But a good mindset will make it less stressful. That's what makes a good journalist.

— Mia, Portage Collaborative Montessori School

I think what makes a good journalist is understanding facts. They also have to be very good listeners in order to write the truth. Journalists also need to be very quiet so they don't hear something incorrect. They also need to have good handwriting so they can print it out.

—Brooklyn, RCAAS

A good journalist would be one that is a great writer, a person that is good at asking questions. I would be a good journalist because I am good at writing stories. This is what would make a good journalist.

— Quinn, Marion Local

To me a good journalist would have to be creative. They would have to be creative to be able to think of and talk about something that is going on in the world. They would also have to be good at ELA. They would have to be good at ELA so that they use correct grammar and spelling. Finally they would have to be comfortable on camera, because journalists are always getting filmed.

— Riley, Buckeye Intermediate

A good journalist is someone who is curious, patient and creative. They need to be curious so they can be into things and write them down easily. They need to be patient so they can hear others' opinions as other reporters do the same. They need to be creative so they can come up with catchy phrases and amazing headlines.
