Inbox: Compare And Contrast Job Skills

In last week's episode, we learned the top job for 2020 is software developer. We asked you to share what job skills do you think you will need when you enter the workforce, and to compare them with the skills your parents needed. Here's what you had to say!

Cambrie, A. J. Jordak Elementary in Middlefield: There are many similarities and differences with the skills you need to be a police officer and a YouTuber. If you are a police officer, you need to know how to drive a car in high speed chases and need skills to shoot a gun. Skills you need to be a YouTuber are you need to know how to edit a video and use a camera. Skills that police officers and YouTubers both need are computer skills and verbal communication skills. These are some similarities and differences that police officers and YouTubers have and share.

Olivia, Central Trail Elementary in Sylvania: When I grow up, I would like to be a writer. The job skills I will need as a writer include, having a diverse vocabulary, being detail oriented, being able to handle criticism, and being able to work under a deadline. As a business owner, my father also needs to be detail oriented, he also needs to be able to handle criticism, and he also needs to be work under a deadline, however he does not need to have a diverse vocabulary. A lot of occupations are similar in ways you may not expect.

Harley, Orchard Park Elementary in Kettering: I want to a forest ranger, and I can compare it to what my dad was, because my dad was and still is, a math teacher, and helped with people with special needs. So for him to be able to be that kind of person he had to listen and concentrate on the people who have already practiced and know what they are doing. And I could contrast it by teaches work for people, and inside, while forest rangers work mainly outside and animals.

Colton, Norton Elementary in Norton: When I grow up I want to be a carpenter. The first skill I would need for that job would be strength because you can't hold some of the heavy tools. The first skill my mom would need is definitely sturdy hands because she is a waitress. We would both need strong legs because being a waitress you would have to WALK A LOT because you have to take orders all day long and bring out peoples food all day long! Being a carpenter you would have to walk a lot because you would have to bring all of the wood were your building then hammer it together and then move to the other spot and hammer it and so on.

Sydney, Glenwood Intermediate in Canton: My job skills will be very different than my parents first jobs. I want to a brain surgeon, then retire at 32, and go to law school. Because of CCP and the college I want to go to is free, I will need more skills like science, and other things, than my parents, who both worked at fast food places. Though the jobs are different, both require some math, and in a way, people skills, though my parents would have definitely need more people skills.
