Third graders at Evening Street Elementary School in Worthington traveled back in time as part of their Black History Month project.
Each third grader chose a famous African-American in history to research and then write a report about the person’s background and contributions to society.
The project culminated in the annual third-grade wax museum where students came dressed as the person they profiled.
They also learned to sing the Civil Rights song “Woke up this morning” by the Freedom Singers.
Third-grade teacher Emily Burkhalter said:
“It was an awesome experience and the kids learned so much about how African-Americans have influenced our lives throughout history. I am proud of all the effort they put into this, especially when we had four snow days to work around!”
Congratulations Evening Street third graders-- for your hard work bringing history to life, we’re giving you this week’s NewsDepth A Plus!
