A Plus: Chardon Hills Magnet School Student Council

You've proved to us in the past that you've got the ability to do whatever you put your mind to, just like this week's NewsDepth A+.

We're giving the award to a special group of students at Chardon Hills Magnet School in Euclid. They are the 16 fourth and fifth grade students who were elected by their peers to serve on the student council, and they've been hard at work engaging the rest of the school in service projects, to benefit their community in the city of Euclid.

Their most recent service project was a food drive for the Euclid Hunger Center. We heard from teacher and student council advisor, Ms. Wojnar, who told us that the council members decided to give prizes to the top three classrooms with the most donations.

They tallied classroom totals each day, and then they gave daily announcements about the top donors to create excitement and competition between classrooms. They also made flyers and posters to advertise the food drive, which they sent home with every student in the school.

In the end, their hard work really paid off because they collected 1,932 food items, which is almost double their goal of getting 1,000 items! Ms. Wojnar tells us the council looks forward to planning more service projects this school year.

We think this student council is setting a great example of strong leadership and creative thinking, and who knows, maybe someday they might decide to run for other offices? Maybe Governor? At least we can say we knew them first, right? So here's an A Plus to the Chardon Hills Magnet School student council, keep up the good work!
