Nutritious eating is a goal for many Americans, but can it be taken too far? When individuals become obsessed with only consuming food they deem "healthy," they can develop an eating disorder known as orthorexia. Those who suffer from this condition may eliminate food groups such as fat, protein, or gluten to lose weight or adhere to a diet. But by doing so, they can actually damage their health.
Dr. Jessica Castonguay and dietitian Madeline Brown from Akron Children's Hospital tell ideastream’s Rick Jackson about this eating disorder – and how parents can spot it in their children.
