THIS LIGHT OF OURS: ACTIVIST PHOTOGRAPHERS FROM THE CIVIL RIGHTS ERA: We often think of history as words recorded in a textbook. But, some of the most powerful stories of our past are told through images. A new exhibit at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage documents a crucial period in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s through the work of nine photographers.

FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY:  Many of the experiences in the exhibit, “This Light of Ours,” happened in an instant.  With one opportunity to capture it on film.  Photographer Roy Inman, takes a much difference approach to taking pictures.  Fascinated by the role trains played in our country, he uses “flash bulbs” to pay homage to o. Winston link, one of his photography heroes.

LEGO TOYS:  For toy enthusiast, Jack Little, Legos are more than just a toy. They’re a powerful educational tool…the story comes to us from our PBS affiliate WEDU, in Florida.

CERAMIC ARTIST JAMI PORTER LARA: The saying one person’s trash is another person’s treasure is certainly true for Albuquerque, New Mexico artist Jami Porter Lara.  While traveling along the U.S. -Mexico border, she noticed the large number of plastic bottles left behind by migrants which became the inspiration for her latest work.
