The Novelty of Pop-Up Books; Stone Carver; Karen Heyl and the Admirables Band

POP-UP BOOKS: Books have the power to take us to different places, different times, and worlds. Ordinarily, we’d expect them to do that using just the power of words printed on a flat page. But in the exhibit  Wizards of Pop-up at the Akron Art Museum, there’s a collection of books that offer visitors a novel perspective.

ARTIST KAREN HEYL: Ohio artist Karen Heyl discovered her calling at the ripe old age of thirty-something when she picked up her first chisel. Years later, you can find her work in buildings, parks and cityscapes throughout the United States. Her story comes to us from our affiliate Think TV in Dayton for this edition of Applause America.

THE ADMIRABLES: The music of the Admirables Band is the gift that keeps on giving. What began as a gathering of friends at a birthday party has evolved into one of the hottest new bands in Northeast Ohio.
