Stitching History from the Holocaust; A Soldier's Story; Featherwood Eyeglass Frames

Stitching History from the Holocaust: To avoid the looming dangers of World War II, in 1939, Paul and Hedy Strnad of Prague, Czechoslovakia, sent a letter with a number of dress designs to their cousin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in hopes of obtaining visas to the U.S. Sadly, the Strnads perished in the Holocaust, and their letter was stored away for 70 years. Once the letter and its dress designs were found, the Jewish Museum Milwaukee partnered with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater to bring the designs to life, preserving their legacy.

Sgt. Walter Kozerefski: The systematic persecution and murder of six-million Jews, Europeans and other groups was halted in 1945. One U.S. Soldier, Sargent Walter Kozerefski was among the first to help liberate Dachau Prison, the original compound built by the Nazis to hold, torture, and exterminate the inmates. That soldier also became a victim of those atrocities, by carrying what he experienced inside that camp with him for the rest of his life.

Featherwood Eyeglass Frames:  In southern Ohio, two friends are making a living crafting custom made eyeglasses. While in the process, they’re reducing their carbon footprint AND getting a little bit of exercise.
