Karamu; Cleveland Play House; East Bank of the Flats; Derek Hess Gallery Opens

KARAMU HOUSE:  For any theater company there are lots of roles that need to be played. Some of the most crucial roles aren’t on stage, instead, they’re in board rooms, offices, and at community  gatherings: leading, reading and writing. Just recently, one of the city's oldest theater companies announced an appointment that could help them add some fresh chapters to their century old story. Karamu House has appointed Tony Sias, as there new President and CEO.

CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE:  Karamu’s one time neighbor, the Cleveland Play House  that for decades was right around the corner until they moved to Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland is also in the throngs of its centennial celebration. A book, recently released  by Professor Jeffrey Ullom of Case Western Reserve University titled, The Cleveland Play House, America’s First Regional Theatre: it’s Search for a Home documents the Play House Theater’s struggle throughout the decades  to become a legitimate, well established  theater  THAT was independent, Avant-garde and not part of the “establishment” theater community.

EAST BANK OF THE FLATS (NIGHTLIFE):  For those who remember Cleveland Flats nightclubs like Peabody's Down Under...D'Poos...and Fagan's well THOSE places have been replaced by a NEW generation of party places. In our third and final segment about the renovation of the East Bank of the Flats we sit down with some of the new Flats nightclub operators.

ARTIST DEREK HESS:  With ghouls and goblins descend on Cleveland this weekend we thought we'd pay homage to the king of the monsters  “Godzilla” with a stop by a brand new art gallery that recently opened at the West 78 th Street Studio by artist Derek Hess.  The premiere exhibit is about the monster that as a child gave him the he-be-gee-bees…GODZILLA!
