Jae & Wadsworth Jarrell, Holden Arboretum, East Bank of the Flats and Cartoonist Johnny Hart

ARTISTS JAE & WADSWORTH JARRELL: At the height of the Black Power Movement in the mid 1960’s some sought equality and justice through sit-ins, marches, and membership in organizations like the SCLC, SNCC, and the Black Panthers. Others spoke out, not on city streets but in plays, poems, AND visual art.  Among that pioneering group who sought change through the arts were Jae and Wadsworth Jarrell of Cleveland.

EAST BANK OF THE FLATS:After a long fallow period, the East Bank of the Flats is now poised to become a major attraction as a place to live, work, eat and play.  In our three part series on the comeback of the flats we chat with developers Scott Wolstein of the Wolstein Group and Adam Fishman of Fairmount Properties.

HOLDEN ARBORETUM: The 36-hundred acre Holden Arboretum, which encompasses Lake and Geauga Counties, is ranked as the 13 th largest arboretum in the country.  It operates as a living outdoor museum that promotes the beauty and importance of the forest and wildlife.  Holden recently unveiled a tower that’s 120 feet high, AND a 500-foot-long walkway suspended 65 feet above the forest floor, both of which will give visitors a very different perspective.  We sent our ideastream cameras there for a peek.

ARTIST JOHNNY HART:In this episode of Applause America we meet the grandson of cartoonist Johnny Hart. The senior Hart, who died in 2007,  was the creator of The Wizard of ID and B.C.,  and we learn how his family is carrying his legacy forward.
