The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reviewing the comments made by the leader of a gun-rights group who said he’d leave “political bodies” all over the ground if Gov. Mike DeWine’s gun control proposals become lawChris Dorr with Ohio Gun Owners said in a nearly 90-minute video that his group would not compromise on the 17-point plan that DeWine has advanced in the wake of the mass shooting in Dayton. Dorr said gun owners’ “version of negotiation” will be to “pull the trigger and leave the corpse for the buzzards.” A spokesman for the Republican governor said troopers are reviewing the video and added that no criminal investigation has been launched. 

Grammy Award-winning singer and Dayton-area native John Legend made a surprise visit to the Oregon District in Dayton on Sunday to offer his support to residents and businesses in the wake of the Aug. 4 mass shooting that killed nine people and wounded dozens more. Legend performed at Blind Bob’s and did some shopping. At a news conference with Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, he urged Dayton residents to stay strong and vote for politicians who back increased gun restrictions.   

Police in Akron say two people were shot, one fatally, Sunday night near Firestone High School. Authorities say the shooting happened in the 1500 block of Shatto Ave. around 9 p.m. They have not released further details. 

Some cast members of the "The Shawshank Redemption" movie will reunite in Mansfield for the film's 25th-anniversary celebration.  Among those attending the Aug. 16-18 event will be director and screenwriter Frank Darabont and actor Bob Gunton, who played Warden Norton.  The 1994 film was shot at the Ohio State Reformatory and other sites around Mansfield.  The reformatory served as the Shawshank State Prison.

Carlos Santana hit a grand slam in the 10th inning to lift the Indians over the Minnesota Twins, 7-3, and forge another first-place tie with the Twins in the AL Central race. Santana also had an RBI single in the third.
