Gov. Mike DeWine talks about potential policy changes after the mass shooting in Dayton.

Good morning, iOpeners. It's Monday, August 5, 2019.

Government leaders from around the state extended their condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones during the mass shooting in Dayton, while some top leaders called for legislation to prevent such an attack in the future. Gov. Mike DeWine described the mass shooting in Dayton’s historic Oregon District as a "nightmare."

High school classmates of the gunman who killed nine people early Sunday in Dayton, Ohio, say he was suspended for compiling a “hit list” of those he wanted to kill and a list of girls he wanted to sexually assault. The accounts by two former classmates emerged after police said there was nothing in the background of 24-year-old Connor Betts that would have prevented him from purchasing the .223-caliber rifle with extended ammunition magazines that he used to open fire outside a crowded bar.

Nineteen hours after a masked gunman opened fire on revelers enjoying summer nightlife, the blood had been scrubbed from the sidewalk and the crime-scene tape torn down as a somber crowd of hundreds stood in the same street Sunday evening to honor the nine victims killed and 27 left injured in Dayton, Ohio. They released doves, repeated the names of the dead and sang “Amazing Grace,” but directed an angrier chorus at Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, interrupting his speech at the vigil with chants of “Make a change” and “Do something!”

Cleveland Police say two people were killed and several were injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 90 East early Monday morning. None of the victims have been identified and there's no update on those injured. I-90 East reopened between West 25th and West 98th around 4:30 a.m.

Shane Bieber threw a complete gameas the Indians swept the Angels after a 6-2 victory. The homestand continues tonight when Cleveland hosts Texas.

Weather forecast for Cleveland: Sunny, high 86.  Tonight, chance of storms, low 73.  Tomorrow,  showers, high 86. Wednesday, a chance of storms throughout the day. High 82.
