A day after announcing a staff member at Marion Correctional Institution tested positive for the coronavirus, the state has placed the entire prison under quarantine.
According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, the quarantine applies to all 2,539 inmates.
The infected staff member was most recently at the prison March 24 and reported the illness the next day. The state hasn’t released any details on the staff member’s role at the prison.
Under the quarantine, movement within the prison is now limited. Every inmate at Marion is having their temperature taken daily.
No additional cases or inmates with symptoms have been reported.
This is the first instance of anyone being placed under quarantine since ODRC first started reporting testing results at its prisons on March 25. As of March 30, Ohio has tested 21 inmates for the coronavirus. All results have been negative so far, with two inmates in isolation while waiting for their test results.
