As the federal shutdown continues, furloughed government workers may be facing the pressure of bills and other financial obligations.  A local non-profit offering interest-free loans is looking to provide a little relief.

Over the course of 115 years, the Hebrew Free Loan Association of Northeast Ohio has offered financial backing for a wide range of needs, from struggling small businesses to individuals stuck in payday loans.  Executive director Michal Marcus says the government shutdown was a natural fit.

"Everything we're hearing in the news, it's becoming very clear that people, through no fault of their own, are strapped for cash," she said.  "They have employment, but they're furloughed, and if we can be a resource to get them through this challenging time, we're willing to try and help."

Marcus says they offer micro loans, going as high as $10,000. The Hebrew Free Loan Association of Northeast Ohio is a non-sectarian organization that is financed by donations and grants.
