Cuyahoga County Council To Hold Another Hearing On Major IT Project

Cuyahoga County Council holds another set of hearings this week on a $25 million plan to link the county’s computer systems.

The Enterprise Resource Planning system is an expansive effort to tie together the work of all county departments into an integrated computer system. An October 2018 update to council said the ERP will change how the public works department issues work orders and how human resources operates.

Council receives an update on the ERP Monday from the county administration. On Thursday, council hears from the consultant it hired to monitor the project.

There has already been delay, and the project is now expected to finish up by September, Councilman Dale Miller said. He said council will be asking whether it remains on schedule.

“I’ve been in government for 35 years, and I have not seen any implementation of a new computer system of anything of this time and complexity done on schedule,” Miller said. “It’s just difficult.”

Despite the time the work has taken, Miller said the project is still within its budget.

“So there could be a few relatively modest additional glitches occur, and we could still be on budget, so that’s positive,” he said.

This month, a grand jury indicted the county’s IT general counsel in connection with ERP contracting work.

Miller said that likely won’t be a focus of the hearing. He said it doesn’t affect aspects of the project being installed now.
