The Chagrin Documentary Film Festival virtually screens "Women in Blue" about female police officers as part of its 2020 roster.

October kicks off with a pair of staples of the fall arts season in Northeast Ohio. Here are five online artistic options for your autumnal enjoyment this week.

Chagrin Documentary Film Festival

The 2020 edition of the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival is a hybrid of virtual screenings and events combined with drive-in and outdoor movies. The documentaries are available online from Tuesday, October 6, through Sunday, October 11, on the CDFF website.

Cleveland Book Week

Northeast Ohio's annual literary series in conjunction with the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards is virtual this year with a number of events, including film screenings and a writers conference. It also spotlights three of this year's Anisfield-Wolf Award winners Namwali Serpell, Eric Foner and Ilya Kaminsky during the virtual Cleveland Book Week events.

The Cleveland Orchestra "Beethoven 9 Project"

More than 100 musicians and singers from the Cleveland Orchestra and its chorus performed Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" at more than a dozen iconic spots around Northeast Ohio. The socially-distanced performance can be viewed on the orchestra's various social media channels including YouTube.

GroundWorks DanceTheater "nextSPACE Series"

The nextSPACE fall series for GroundWorks DanceTheater is a combination of dance-on-film drive-in screenings in Akron and Cleveland along with online events. Virtual choreography discussions and dance classes take place October 7 - October 22, accessible via the GroundWorks web page.

Oberlin Conservatory "Stage Left Series"

On Saturday nights, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music presents its large ensembles recorded in socially distant settings for a virtual audience. Broadcast from the Oberlin Stage Left online platform, the Saturday night concerts will be preceded by some of the composers offering insights into the featured music.
