Growing Up, Not Out

Houses have sprouted where amber waves of grain once dominated the landscape outside of urban centers in Northeast Ohio. Paved streets. Shopping complexes. Miles of new utilities. Some say this kind of development is not progress: Suburban sprawl, they contend, is causing economic and environmental problems.
