University Hospitals Opens New Health Center for Women And Children

There’s a new anchor institution in Cleveland's emerging Midtown neighborhood. On Monday, University Hospitals officially opened its Rainbow Center for Women & Children. The center seeks to provide community-centered care with a special focus on preventing pre-term births and thereby reducing infant mortality. The $26 million building sits on RTA’s HealthLine and there’s a stop right outside the front door on Euclid Avenue – that’s by design so more Clevelanders can access the center's services. To learn more about the project and how UH hopes to improve health outcomes among patients and in surrounding communities, ideastream's Rick Jackson spoke with Ann Konkoly, one of the center's medical directors.

Earlier on The Sound of Ideas, Mike McIntyre spoke with Patti DePompei, president of UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, and Elizabeth Newman, CEO of The Centers for Families and Children, about how they intend to collaborate and how this investment fits in the broader picture of new development in Midtown.
