The United States of America is one of two countries that doesn't offer paid family leave. Great Britain offers 40 weeks, Russia has 20 weeks and in India the government offers 12 weeks.
But slowly here in American things are changing. Four states, California, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia currently either provide or have passed a measure to implement paid family. And there are at least a dozen more states, including here in Ohio, that have legislation being introduced.
In January, Representative Janine Boyd, (D) 9th District and Representative Kristin Boggs, (D) District 18, announced legislation to establish the Ohio Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program.
