Infant Mortality Down in Cuyahoga County, But Racial Disparities Remain

There is good news regarding Cuyahoga County's overall infant mortality rate.

The closely watched number of infants who do not survive a full year dropped in 2016 substantially.

The 2015 rate of 10.4 deaths per 1,000 live births fell to 8.6 deaths per thousand last year.

Only once has the number been lower in the past decade.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health report today did highlight that premature deaths continue to be the leading cause of high infant mortality rate.

And that the ratio of black to white infant deaths unfortunately, continues to increase.
