A Century of Community Foundations: The Evolution and Future of an American Philanthropic Innovation

The first community foundation - the Cleveland Foundation - was established in 1914. More than 100 years later, there are now an estimated 1,700 community foundations worldwide. Many of these foundations have deep, long-term ties to the communities they serve and billions of dollars in asset dedicated to sustaining nonprofit activity. How can they continue to innovate, and continue to serve the immediate and long term needs of the communities they serve?

Join us for a panel discussion with local community foundation and philanthropic leaders on the evolution and future of American philanthropic innovation.

Panelists:

Brian Frederick, President & CEO, Community Foundation of Lorain County

John Garofolo, Vice President, Community Investment, Akron Community Foundation

India Pierce Lee, Program Director for Neighborhoods, Housing, and Community Development, Cleveland Foundation

Mark Sidel, Doyle-Bascom Professor of Law and Public Affairs at the University of  Wisconsin-Madison

This conversation will be moderated by WCPN Morning Edition Host/Producer Rick Jackson.
