Trump, U.S.-Canada trade dominate economic forum

Business leaders and government officials are meeting in Detroit this week to discuss ways to strengthen the economy of the Great Lakes region. But as the Great Lakes Economic Forum got started, President Trump's recent actions -- and the potential disruption to U.S.-Canada relations -- were a central theme.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Bruce Heyman said, “It has been a bad week for Canada-U.S. relations.”Because the Trump administration had just announced plans to charge duties on billions of dollars of lumber imported from Canada, the escalation in trade tensions dominated many of the panels and conversations, Great Lakes Now reports. The forum continues Wednesday. If you can't make it to Detroit, check out videos at Great Lakes Now, and the livestream available onGreat Lakes Now's Facebook page. Copyright 2017 Great Lakes Today.
