Tips for Treacherous Travel

The Auto Club predicts this week will be the second highest travel season since before the Recession of 2008.

But, with a big snow storm due on Wednesday, the AAA's Bevi Powell says it's a good idea to check the condition of your battery, and pump up the tires before you head out on a long trip through the cold.

BEVI POWELL: Check your fluids, too. Antifreeze helps your car to withstand the cold. You need to make sure you have enough windshield wiper fluid, too, because that can be bad when you're dealing with the glare of the sun, if you have a dirty windshield.

Powell reminds you to have your phone all charged-up before you hit the road. She also recommends putting together an emergency road kit.

BEVI POWELL: You need to have blankets, a flashlight with extra batteries, maybe some drinking water, a small shovel, and some kind of abrasive material --- such as kitty litter or sand --- so that if your car gets stuck, you have some traction.

The Triple-A expects to rescue 39,000 stranded holiday drivers over the next week.
