Four shootings at U.S. Colleges this year convinced Kourtney Sladek she should be armed at Baldwin Wallace College.
So this week she's been wearing an empty gun holster to class to support a pending state law that would let college students to carry concealed weapons at school.
Sladek: "Obviously, in an ideal society we wouldn't need any weapons. That's not where we are. For right now I think the best we can do is arm law abiding citizens who just want to protect themselves."
Sladek is a 20-year-old junior studying early childhood education. She's also a student leader for the national group Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.
A bill that would allow permit holders to carry guns in schools, churches, daycare centers and some government buildings has been introduced in the Ohio House and has received one hearing by the Criminal Justice Committee.
A similar measure is law in Utah, but has failed in six other states.
