A group that wants to put a marijuana legalization plan on this fall's ballot has turned in its petition signatures to the Ohio Secretary of State's office. From our Statehouse Bureau Jo Ingles has details.

ResponsibleOhio's Ian James says the group turned in more than 695,000 petition signatures from 72 of Ohio's 88 counties.

"We've been registering voters throughout this whole process. About 10% of the signatures are from newly registered or voter registration updates," James says.

In order to qualify for the ballot, the group needs about 306,000 valid signatures from 44 of Ohio's counties.

If the group has submitted those, Ohioans will be able to vote on a plan this fall that would allow specified investors to set up ten growing sites throughout the state, would allow a limited number of retail outlets and would allow Ohioans to grow a small number of plants of their own.

But the issue is expected to have well-organized opposition.
