Ohio Congressional Races

The incumbent who won by the smallest margin in Ohio yesterday was Republican Jeff Johnson in the 6th District which runs along the Ohio River…And still he got 58%. Most incumbents won by 2 to 1 margins. Democrats Marcy Kaptur and Marcia Fudge, along with Republican Jim Renacci, all coasted to victory. Democrats thought they could pick up a seat in the 14th District covering the northeast corner of Ohio, Steve Latourette’s old seat. But GOP Freshman Dave Joyce easily held on to that one. Now his party will control both houses of Congress and he says he wants to “correct the economy.”

“Obviously the administration hasn’t got it right so far. And together, working toward common sense solutions on a bipartisan basis for what’s going to be necessary to keep our country moving forward. And I look forward to doing that in a bipartisan way and a bicameral way when we get back to DC.”

Democrat Michael Wager was disappointed in his party, saying it did not stand up for its own issues.

“Standing up for tax reform. Standing up for the Affordable Care Act which is now being proven by study after study to work for the American people. Early on the
Democrats were not embracing it. I did from the beginning but I don’t believe the national party did. “

“Did the Fitzgerald campaign hurt you at all?”

WAGER “ The direct answer is yes. When you don’t have a competitive gubernatorial race - that hurts turnout. Democrats need turnout . That’s why Democrats are more successful in presidential years.”
