New Art for Superior
Manka's plans involve four installations of what he calls "pavilions." He describes them this way: "Take the kind of pavilion you might find in an English garden and dip it in chrome."
What he's talking about is essentially four metal sculptures, maybe twenty feet high, made of industrial materials, like excavating buckets from construction equipment. The four sculptures will all be chromed, and their shapes will make reference to the architectural elements of the neighborhood, such as the water towers atop some of the buildings.
Manka says that he hopes the project will help to re-invigorate the mid-town corridor. Fabrication of the sculptures has begun and Manka says he expects to install them in the spring.
