Marijuana Ballot Issue Attracts Ads On Both Sides

A volunteer for ResponsibleOhio. (Karen Kasler/Statehouse Bureau)

Backers of a proposed constitutional amendment that would legalize marijuana have been airing ads on television stations for a couple of months now. Opponents of Issue 3 are now getting into the game. From our Statehouse Bureau, Jo Ingles has more.

You won’t see the ad from the Ohioans Against Marijuana Monopolies on television stations…at least not yet. No on Issue 3 Campaign Chair Curt Steiner says the new ad will air on internet sites for now.

“We do expect to continue to be mailing and calling targeted voters who have expressed interest in voting early through the absentee process or early voting. And we are also working to raise the money required to do t.v. advertising and potentially other mail and phone calls to all voters who we expect to vote on Election Day.”

ResponsibleOhio, the group backing Issue 3, is doing television ads and mailings to try to convince Ohioans to approve the plan, which includes 10 specified growing sites and the possibility of more than 1,100 retail stores.
