Honda Factories Back To 100% By August

Honda now says its two auto factories in Ohio will go back to full production sooner than expected. From member station WOSU in Columbus, Steve Brown reports.

The auto giant cut production and staff hours at plants around the U.S. and Canada in the days after the March tsunami devastated several parts suppliers in Japan. That’s been especially tough for Union and Logan counties, where Honda is by far the largest employers. But company spokesman Ron Lietzke says cleanup has gone better than expected, and workers will go back to work full-time at the beginning of August.

“That includes the production here in Ohio at our two auto plants here, as well as in Alabama, Indiana, Canada and Mexico.”

The parts shortage has already slashed production by about 126,000 cars and trucks. Lietzke says workers will do their best to make that up.
