Holden Arboretum, Cleveland Botanical Garden Could Merge

Board members at the Holden Arboretum, an occasional WCPN underwriter, voted last night to merge with another Northeast Ohio staple--the Cleveland Botanical Garden. The garden has faced financial woes over the last decade, complicated by a significant blow to its endowment by the Great Recession. Holden gains more visibility; and the garden gets solvency. And, as Plain Dealer reporter Michelle Jarboe McFee explains to ideastream's Tony Ganzer, there also may be a lesson here for other non-profits in management of risk.

Tony Ganzer has reported from Phoenix to Cairo, and was the host of 90.3's "All Things Considered." He was previously a correspondent with the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, covering issues like Swiss banks, Parliament, and refugees. He earned an M.A. in International Relations (University of Leicester); and a B.Sc. in Journalism (University of Idaho.) He speaks German, and a bit of French.
