The Cuyahoga County executive told a few dozen supporters outside Medina High School that the governor gave out tax cuts at the expense of public schools and municipalities.

"You know, Gov. Kasich is going to roll into town, the circus will come into town, and then it will leave OK?" FitzGerald said. "But you're going to be stuck with the reality. And your conversations that everybody here has with people that live in Medina about the consequences of these policies, that's what's going to make a difference in the election."

Introducing him was Tracy Linscott, the head of the Strongsville teachers union, which went on an eight-week strike in 2013.

Other cities on FitzGerald's campaign itinerary this past weekend include Cleveland, Akron and Hannibal.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported FitzGerald was scheduled to appear in Youngstown, when in fact it was his running mate Sharen Neuhardt who was scheduled to speak in that city.
