Speaking to reporters yesterday, Cleveland Police Deputy Chief Ed Tomba says there is no evidence that Ariel Castro drugged his victims while keeping them locked up in his house over a decade.
But Tomba did say Berry’s sole attempt at escape freed her and fellow captives Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus.
“The only opportunity – after interviewing the young ladies – to escape, was the other day when Amanda escaped," Tomba told reporters. "So they were in that home…I don’t believe, they don’t believe they’ve been out of that home for the last ten years, respectively."
Tomba says the women went out the house only twice during their decade-long ordeal, and that was to Castro’s garage and while wearing disguises.
Castro is now facing multiple charges of kidnapping and rape. He’s expected to be arraigned in a county court today.
