Drug Discount Card Now Available In Cuyahoga County
Cuyahoga has joined 24 other Ohio counties to offer a national discount card program that allows residents to save 20 percent on their prescriptions.
The card is designed for those who are under or uninsured, but anybody can get one. Discounts apply to most commonly prescribed drugs available at over 60,000 retail pharmacy locations nationwide.
County Treasurer Jim Rokakis says the program doesn't cost the county any money and the potential savings for families is significant.
"The average person who uses this who does not have a prescription drug plan is going to save ten bucks per prescription per month," Rokakis says.
"So for people in this county who have multiple prescriptions, the savings could be substantial."
The program is sponsored by the National Association of Counties and Caremark, a company that manages prescription benefits.
Residents can download the cards at caremark.com or pick one up at their local library, community center, or city hall.
