Despite Layoffs, The Plain Dealer Expands Community, Crime Coverage

Like many newspapers around the country, The Plain Dealer has gone through a number of changes recently. Just last week, The Plain Dealer Publishing Company announced the layoff of some 50 employees including managers, photographers and reporters. The move had been long expected as part of a larger effort to realign its business model to serve an increasingly on-line news readership. Starting this week, home delivery service drops from seven to just four days a week. Subscribers will also have access to a new e-edition, available everyday online. Ideastream's Michelle Kanu talked to Chris Quinn, the former assistant managing editor of metro news, about the direction the paper's news coverage will take in the future.
