The advanced energy fair was held as part of Mayor Frank Jackson’s Cleveland 2019 sustainability initiative. The mayor’s sustainability chief Jenita McGowan says the goal is to encourage companies to use cleaner energy sources that produce fewer pollutants and greenhouse gases.

McGowan: "We also want people to be educated about the job creation potential that Cleveland is uniquely positioned to benefit from around advanced renewable energy, both from the manufacturing perspective and from the service sector of installation and management of an advanced renewable energy economy here."

McGowan says the more manufacturing companies rely on local vendors for cleaner energy sources, the better those vendors will be positioned to add jobs in the future.

Cleveland has made a commitment that by 2025, its power companies will use renewable sources to generate 25% of the energy they sell.
