Healthcare is becoming one of Northeast Ohio’s biggest industries, but many hospitals and other medical companies are having trouble filling their ranks with qualified people.
Now, the Department of Labor is giving the City of Cleveland a $2.5 million grant over three years to try and fill 800 of those open jobs. Holly Reilly is with University Hospitals’ Human Resources department.
REILLY: We have many people, but we really need to advance their skill level, so this is so important to our future.
Standing to benefit from the federal grant include Cleveland schools, Tri-C, University Hospitals, and a number of other area organizations. The money will support everything from Summer Health Academies, to online courses, to electronic medical records training. Officials say it’s the largest such grant in the country.
