One of the greatest women's tennis players of all time, King underscored the importance of women's sports and Title IX funding during a sit-down chat with sports columnist Christine Brennan at Cleveland State's the Wolstein Center.
King said women lag behind men in college sports scholarships, and that about 85 percent of Division I football programs lose money that could go to other sports.
But, she views the struggle for sports equality, equality across all areas, as a joint effort.
KING: This is about boys and girls. Not just girls against the boys. We're together in this world. Let's work it out.
A champion for social change, King plans to continue working toward closing the gender gap. She wants to help create even more opportunities for women in sports as honorary chair of the Women's Sports Foundation.
