Armond Budish sailed to victory in his race for a second term as Cuyahoga County executive.

Budish won 67 percent of the vote against Republican Peter Corrigan.

It was one of the few Election Day bright spots for Democrats in Ohio, along with Sen. Sherrod Brown's reelection and picking up a couple seats on the Ohio Supreme Court.

A former Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, Budish was first elected county executive in 2014.

Budish said his focus has been providing economic opportunity throughout the county.

“We have created thousands of jobs in this county. We have been training people for the thousands of jobs that are open in Cuyahoga County. And the economy in Cuyahoga County is humming,” said Budish.

Budish won easily despite ongoing investigations of the county’s IT department and lingering questions about operations at the county’s juvenile jail and child welfare department.
